How Do I Use Facebook Search
There are multiple ways to search Facebook. To get better and more redefined results it is recommended that you use a combination of keywords and filters. This might sound overwhelming but not to worry, it is simple.
The easiest way to use Facebook search is to simply type in a key word that is pertinent to what you are looking for. FB search is an ideal way to search for people on Facebook among other things such as interests or even recipes. An example is if you are looking for a recipe, say for an apple pie, you would type in “apple pie recipe”. You might end up with a few results and not only results from your previous posts.
To get a closer result, you could try typing a few relevant key words to the specific post you are trying to find. For example, if your Aunt Sally posted a recipe about an awesome apple pie, you can type in Aunt Sally recipe and that should do it. Another example is of your sister, Lisa got married back in 2014, you could type in “Lisa wedding 2014” and you could narrow it down further by saying “Lisa wedding 2014 photos” or “Lisa wedding 2014 video”. It may be helpful to remember that your ‘recent searches’ can have an affect of what populates in the suggestion portion of the Facebook search. You always have the ability to clear your recent search.
Another way to hone in closer is to make use of the filters. All you have to do is start typing into the Facebook search bar and suggestions will begin to appear you can either click on one of those suggestions or continue on using a filter. Under the Facebook search bar, you will see a menu that allows you to filter by ‘Top, Latest, Photos. Videos, Pages, People, Places, Groups, Apps, Events’. Along the left side you will have the ability to search by ‘Posted By, Tagged Location, and Date Posted’. Say your mom posted a picture of a beautiful red rose last summer, you could type in “red rose”, your mothers name and 2015 and there’s a very high probability the post you are looking for would pop up right away. Try it and find out for yourself.
What Can I Find Using Facebook Search
As stated above, you can search for literally anything you have previously seen from a photo or a video to a meme or a news article. You can also search for apps, events, games, groups, pages, people, places and so much more. You can do a Facebook people search for previous and present co workers, relatives, old friends and even make new ones, if you are brave enough, you can search for your exes, tho not recommended. All you have to do is type the name in the Facebook search bar and click on the spyglass and if they have an account and it is visible to you, they will appear.
You may have to wade through a few others with the same name however. You can also import your contacts from outside email addresses or your phone and Facebook will assist you in finding these people. Your searches will be tailor fit to you personally based on who, what or where you happen to be connected to. This will also depend on what others wish for you to see. Perhaps your parent, child or significant other has you blocked from a certain post but you happen to see it on another Facebook users page, if their privacy did not originally permit you to see the post and yet you happened to search for that post, no results will be yielded from any Facebook search from your account. So simply stated, privacy settings affect search results. Anyone has access to public posts.
Facebook Search People
Facebook search people allows you to find friends in Facebook search results. In order to search people on Facebook you need to use your Facebook login. Once you are signed in, look for the search bar at the top of the screen and start typing in the name of the person you are looking for. If there are multiple people with the same name you might have to sort through the search results. By default Facebook search will show you all information pertaining to the people you are searching for.
You want to show only Facebook people search results so this is what you are going to do. On the search results page after you have queried for the person you are looking for, look to the top of the screen. Find the link labeled ‘People’ and click on it. This will search only Facebook profiles.
That is it, you can now search for people on Facebook! Unless someone chose to delete Facebook or hides their profile you should be able to find them.
Do I Show Up In Facebook Search Results?
As a reminder, privacy settings affect search results. With that said, what others find out about you is all determined and controlled by you. The first way you can control this is by using the audience selector tool when you share anything at all. All you have to do is click on the tool before posting and checking the audience you want to share with, public, friends, only me, or go to more options and create custom lists.
Another way you have control of who can see you on Facebook search is by going to your activity log and see which posts you have hidden from your time line. If they are hidden, no one can search for them. You also have the ability to change this and either hide something you no longer want others to have access to or unhide something you would now like to share.
And the third way you can control your personal search-ability is by going to the ‘About’ page on your Facebook profile page. All of the information you have provided about yourself in this portion is available to others to view and again, determinate based on how you have established your privacy settings on your main settings. The search is also available using the Facebook app.
